Questions People Ask

I sweat easily in work boots—will these make it worse?

Wool helps manage moisture, but if your boots don’t breathe, heat and humidity can still build up—especially with thick cushioning. The fastest fix during long shifts is rotating into a dry pair.

If you want the full “swamp foot” checklist, read our field guide here.

Are these socks good for 10–12 hour shifts in work boots?

Yes—Hywell merino wool socks are built for long hours in boots. The cushioned footbed helps absorb impact and reduce pressure during all-day standing and walking. For the best comfort and warmth, make sure your boots aren’t tight.

Will these socks slide down?

In general, a higher cuff stays in place better during long shifts. However, slippage can still depend on calf shape, boot lining friction, and sizing.

For the best hold, make sure the heel pocket is seated correctly, pull the sock up fully, and smooth out any bunching. If you’re between sizes, choosing the smaller size usually improves grip and helps prevent sliding down.

Steel-toe compatible?

Yes. We added targeted cushioning across the instep and a seamless toe construction to reduce pressure and rubbing inside steel-toe boots for a more comfortable fit.

Can these socks help reduce blisters?

They’re designed to help. We use high-terry cushioning in common hot-spot areas—around the heel, ankle, and instep—to reduce rubbing during long workdays.

Are these socks warm?

Yes—merino wool generally feels warmer than cotton and helps manage moisture in work boots. Warmth is a system though: boot insulation, boot tightness, activity level, and circulation all matter. If your boots are snug (especially steel-toe), toe pressure can reduce circulation and make toes feel colder.

For outdoor work below 0°C / 32°F with long periods standing still, pair with insulated boots that have enough toe room, and rotate into a dry pair if needed.

Will these socks feel itchy?

Most people find fine merino comfortable, but skin sensitivity varies. If you’re prone to itch or irritation, wash once before first wear with a mild detergent. If discomfort occurs, stop wearing immediately.
